Family Therapy: A Therapeutic Approach

I find family work extremely gratifying. As I develop rapport with a family, we unearth the different parts that make the family function or malfunction as a system. More often than not, each member wants love and acceptance, and an opportunity to be seen and heard.

The first step is to identify the different roles each member plays in the family system. Once we establish an understanding of how the family fits together, we can decide what is working and useful, and what’s not. Then it’s time to make a change!

It's an amazing and inspiring process to see a family taking the necessary steps to heal. Each member becomes aware of their own individual role and learns new ways of communicating with the others. Each step benefits the system and, most importantly, the family unit as a whole.
